The seismic anisotropy observed in Earth's lowermost mantle (D″ layer) is thought to originate from the lattice-preferred orientation (LPO) of materials induced by plastic deformation. Ferropericlase second most abundant mineral lower mantle, and its LPO deformation may significantly contribute D″ layer. slip system(s) ferropericlase controlling layer still controversial, owing technical difficulties conducting high-pressure experiments. We conducted shear experiments on MgO under pressures up 120 GPa reported after Our results indicate that {100}<011> dominant system developed during would result wave splitting with VSH > VSV, consistent observations regions expected accommodate large strain subducted slabs
